Considerably influenced by the surf culture of Victoria’s coastline, artist Hannah Nowlan’s practice attempts to communicate relaxed and therapeutic atmosphere of Australia’s vast natural landscapes. Nowlan uses her practice to process some of the most important experiences of her life, such as grief, death, loss, powerlessness, as well as birth, search and escape. She has developed a uniquely primitive language through her paintings that speak directly of person and place. Through her work, Nowlan employs gaping expanses of colour in attempt to create vast atmospheres and fields of consciousness that one can lose themselves within.
Nowlan completed a Bachelors in Fine Art Drawing and Printmaking with Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) in 2015.
Nowlan is represented by Saint Cloche Gallery.
