“Art need not always depict, suggest or define anything. It exists as a totality in its own right.”
With artistic influences ranging widely from Rothko and Kline, to Matisse and Motherwell, O’Connor prioritises an emotional and sensory experience, embracing a chance-driven approach her multidimensional work. This aleatoric approach infuses her work with authenticity and limitless artistic experimentation, creating a unique adornment to any space.

Elizabeth O’Connor’s diverse and explorative creative practice navigates a variety of genres including painting, collage, sculpture, graphics, fashion and product design. Utilising a medley of variable surfaces as her playground, her abstract works embark on a boundless artistic odyssey, fuelled by experimentation and various mediums, reminiscent of her past experiences and profound passions.
Holding a Bachelor of Arts-Visual Arts, this Brisbane based artist's abstract expressionist paintings celebrate with colour taking centre stage through the orchestration of a symphony of atypical hues harmoniously fusing with form, texture, and line as her foundational elements. Adopting an aleatoric approach, Elizabeth immerses herself wholeheartedly in the action, allowing chance to form a preponderant share in her creative process. Mark-making is varied and characterised by haphazard, bold, unrestrained, energetic brushstrokes accompanied by gestural, naive scribbles—a recurring theme in her work.
Elizabeth’s sculptural journey embraces the mesmerising allure of transformation, where ordinary metamorphoses into extraordinary. Fascinated by the ethereal essence of a seemingly insignificant, simplistic object like a piece of paper or a cutting of fabric, she discovers a metaphorical portal in which to explore the complexities of its humble existence through the crumpling, scrunching, folding, layering, wrapping, pleating, gathering and draping of disparate mediums. Using the force of her own body weight, she coaxes the metal sheet to surrender its two-dimensional rigidity, hand guiding it into the realm of multidimensionality to reveal an alluring three-dimensional sculptural embodiment of bold, minimalist form.
“Colour is my absolute obsession."
